This award winning project entailed the design of a 20,000 square foot research and design facility for a company that manufactures the raw monomer material and the hard blanks used in soft and hard contact lenses. The client commissioned the architect to design a facility that would satisfy the functional requirements for development, manufacturing and shipment of the products utilizing a pre-engineered building system.

Additionally, it was the client’s desire to utilize a bold architecture to that would lend itself to the company’s marketing efforts and become an iconographic element to the company’s image. The organizational parti was then established for a large vertical spline element where manufacturing equipment necessary for the monomer production would be located in the production area, while the front of the spline denotes the buildings organizational relationship of entrance and flanking lab spaces.
